ICONS TO LOOK FOR:
Syria Mosque: Represents the historic performance venue. The top section of the design features an architectural detail and the two sphinxes that once sat to each side of the entrance
“The O”: Represents Essie’s Original Hot Dog Shop, known as “The O,” which was famous for its hotdogs and large pile of fries
Kings Court Theater: Filmstrip and tower represent the 1965 theater
Jay's Book Stall: The blue jay and books represent Jay Dantry’s bookstore, which served the Oakland community for nearly 50 years
Beehive Coffeehouse: Represents the beloved second location in Oakland
Forbes Field: An architectural detail in the jay’s wing honors the baseball stadium that once stood in Oakland
Kunst Bakery: Represents the local bakery remembered fondly by community members for its donuts
