The heron is a water bird and symbolizes renewal, evolution, and patience, which relates to Pittsburgh’s many changes throughout history.

ICONS TO LOOK FOR:

Water waves: Represent the three rivers that come together to form the city
Bridges: Icons in the shape of the Three Sisters Bridges—the Roberto Clemente (Sixth Street Bridge), Andy Warhol (Seventh Street Bridge), and Rachel Carson (Ninth Street Bridge). The lower icon represents the shape of the Fort Duquesne Bridge
City skyline: Shows the skyline as viewed from Point State Park
Point State Park: Represents The Point as seen from above
Fort Duquesne: Represents the shape of the fort
Hypocycloids: Represents the shapes from the Steelmark logo, which have become synonymous with Pittsburgh

Pattern Detail

The pattern in this design is created using an icon that is a “Golden Triangle” surrounded by a shape of Fort Pitt.

Pittsburgh Bridge-related Fun Fact!

The signature yellow color used on many of Pittsburgh’s bridges is called “Aztec Gold,” chosen in part to improve visibility during foggy weather.
