The eagle is a symbol of courage and strength.
This design represents the athletes of various sports in the community. The Ammon Recreation Center has notable jerseys on display.

Baseball bat: Represents The Negro League’s Pittsburgh Crawfords (the “Craws”)
Hockey stick: Represents the Pittsburgh Penguins at PPG Paints Arena
Boxing glove: Represents boxing and Kay Boys’ Club
Baseball: Honors Josh Gibson, the Negro Leagues Hall of Fame player known as the “Black Babe Ruth”
Basketball: Represents Chuck Cooper of the Duquesne Dukes; Maurice Lucas, Jeep Kelly, Rickey Coleman, and Kenny Durrett of the Schenley High School team; Karen Hall, an Ozanam League female basketball star; and Mary Myers, who helped shape women’s basketball in Pittsburgh. During the 1943 NFL season, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles temporarily merged due to player shortages created by World War II, and the team was nicknamed “The Steagles.”
